Agency's Awards Presentation Evening
On 28 February 2008, an event was held at Champions (a small venue above the Australian Racing Museum in Federation Square) to celebrate the Victorian Cancer Agency 2006-07 and 2007-08 funding recipients. Almost 150 guests attended the evening, with presentations made by the Hon. Gavin Jennings (Minister for Innovation), Professor Robert Thomas (Chief Clinical Advisor for Cancer), and the eminent scientists, Sir Gustav Nossal and Professor Peter Doherty.
Formal announcement of $5.8 million funding for cancer research
On February 4 2008, World Cancer Day, Premier Brumby attended a media event to formally announce the $5.8 million that the Victorian Cancer Agency awarded to its 2007-08 funding recipients. The event was held at the Monash University Department of Epidemiology and Preventative Medicine, Alfred Campus. The event involved Professor John McNeil, a recipient of one of the Agency’s Regional Research Infrastructure grants. Read news story.
Inaugural meeting of the Early Careers Innovators Network
The inaugural meeting of the Agency’s Early Careers Innovators Network was held on 24 October 2007. This meeting was followed by a drinks reception with the successful recipients of the Agency’s 2006-07 funding programs and members of the Consultative Council.
Exhibition stand at CRX07
In August 2007, members of the Victorian Cancer Agency shared an exhibition stand with the Victorian Cancer Biobank at the Clinical Research Excellence conference in Melbourne. The conference attracted over 400 delegates from more than 140 national and international clinical research organisations. Creating “… the opportunity for individuals to learn, exchange knowledge and ideas, network, and obtain skills for future clinical research success”.
Launch of the Victorian Cancer Agency
On 11 July 2007, an event was held at Queens Hall, Parliament House in Melbourne to formally launch the Victorian Cancer Agency. The event was attended by the former State Premier, Hon. Steve Bracks, the former Minister for Health, Hon. Bronwyn Pike and the former Minister for Innovation, Hon. John Brumby. A pre-event ‘door-stop’ was also held at Melbourne Hospital. Read news story.
