Translational Cancer Research 2009
Early in 2009, the Victorian Cancer Agency held a Translational Cancer Research funding round.
The Agency received 81 Expressions of Interest totalling over $86 million, following which 28 applicants were asked to submit a full application.
The Agency expects to announce the results of this funding round later in 2009.
The Agency was seeking proposals for projects that have significant potential for clinical translation in the following categories:
- Tumour stream specific proposals that target one of the 10 tumour streams (excluding the breast tumour stream*)
- Multiple and cross tumour stream research
- Translational research proposals into rare cancers
- Clinician-sponsored research that addresses identified patient clinical need.
*Breast cancer was excluded from this funding round as translational breast cancer research is funded separately by the Agency through the Victorian Breast Cancer Research Consortium until 2012.
Funding was available for a broad range of proposals - from smaller, more localised and short-term grants of up to $1 million over a two-year duration, through to large scale, multi-site and long-term grants up to $5 million over a four-year duration.
