Seed funding to enable research in regional areas

To encourage the development of clinical trial and research capacity in regional areas, the Victorian Cancer Agency offered seed funding to members of the regional Integrated Cancer Services.

As the Consultative Council was not established in 2006, an interim steering committee was convened to oversee the activity of the Agency. This steering committee was advised by an independent evaluation panel for the 2006-07 funding round, and comprised:

  • Professor Richard Smallwood, Chair, Ministerial Taskforce for Cancer (2003-2007)
  • Professor Bob Thomas, Director of Surgical Oncology, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre; Director, Western and Central Metropolitan Integrated Cancer Services.
  • Professor Bryan Williams, Director, Monash Institute for Medical Research, and Head, Centre for Cancer Research.
  • Professor Tony Burgess, Director, Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research in Melbourne.
