Background
The Victorian Cancer Agency was established by the State Government in 2006, upon recommendation from the Ministerial Taskforce for Cancer.
The Agency was formally announced by the previous Minister for Innovation, the Hon. John Brumby, on 4 April 2006 as part of the Healthy Futures: Life Sciences Statement. It was awarded $15 million over two years as a joint initiative between the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development and the Department of Human Services.
Victoria’s Cancer Action Plan
The Victorian Cancer Action Plan capitalises on the formation of the Victorian Cancer Agency under the previous Cancer Reform Agenda by significantly increasing its funding and profile. Under the plan, the Agency has received $78.8m for cancer research over four years. The Agency will use this funding to invest in projects and programs that focus on innovative and collaborative approaches to strengthening cancer research capacity and capability across the system.
