Linking research and patient care

Approach

With a strong strategic focus on cancer research and its translation into better outcomes for patients, we work with researchers and other stakeholders to make a positive difference to the people of Victoria.

We seek to:

  • Collaborate with other relevant organisations to build and add value to existing cancer research activities, thereby minimising duplication
  • Base decision-making on the best available evidence
  • Use our cancer research strategy to identify priorities that will guide our funding decision
  • Involve and inform stakeholders on progress and achievements
  • Develop an evaluation framework to measure the effectiveness of programs and implementation of strategies
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement in all Agency activities.

Strategic goals

VCAP

Victoria's Cancer Action Plan (VCAP) 2008-2011 was launched by Premier John Brumby in December 2008 and sets a range of ambitious targets across four key action areas - prevention, research, treatment and support.

The Victorian Cancer Agency is involved in the implementation of Action Area 2: Ensuring rapid translation of research into effective treatments and clinical care.
